The magnetron Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) is a system based on PWM technology, enabling precise control of the magnetron’s output power.
The power supply is selected according to the specific system and operating conditions. In a microwave dryer, it should provide stable power with adjustable microwave output. In plasma systems or laboratories, low-ripple voltage is required. In environments with high levels of dust, water-cooled power supplies are recommended.
Air-Cooled SMPS-A Power Supplies
The SMPS-A series of air-cooled power supplies is used in industrial heating and drying systems, medical devices, chemical applications, and plasma technologies.
Cooling is provided by an integrated fan.
The power supplies use PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology, enabling precise control of the magnetron’s output power. The principle of PWM operation is described in more detail in the Technical-insights.
Power supplies with output ratings of 1.0 / 1.25 / 1.5 kW are powered from a single-phase 230 V AC / 50 Hz mains. They are standardly installed in Microwave Generators and Microwave Magnetron Heads.
Power Control Options:
a) no control – magnetron power fixed (maximum)
b) analog control 0–5 VDC – power proportional to the control voltage
c) digital control (RS-485) – control according to the Modbus RTU communication protocol
Control signals are connected to the power supply’s I/O interface.
For power supplies with digital control, the Modbus RTU communication protocol documentation is included.
The magnetron and power supply are connected with high-voltage (HV) cables.
Available configurations allow the power supply to be adapted to operating conditions and application requirements.
Water-Cooled SMPS-W Power Supplies

The SMPS-W series of water-cooled power supplies is used in industrial systems operating under particularly demanding conditions. They are resistant to high ambient temperatures and heavy dust. They work very well with water-cooled magnetrons.
Water cooling requires connection to a running water supply or a closed-loop cooling system. The type of connections is determined individually.
The compact, enclosed design does not require additional air cooling. PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology is used for precise control of the magnetron’s output power. The principle of PWM operation is described in more detail in the Technical-insights.
