Regardless of the source of moisture, fungi and mold only require locally elevated humidity in the wall. Mold tends to remain mostly on the surface, while fungi can penetrate the material’s structure with their mycelium.

Once they colonize a damp area, they spread to neighboring surfaces. By absorbing moisture from the air, they create a microclimate favorable to their development, even when the substrate is drier. Within a relatively short time, they can cover a significant area.

The first and most important step in combating fungi and mold is to remove the causes of moisture.

Microwave Effectiveness

A common mistake is scraping off infected paint or remove plaster before fungi and mold have been eliminated.
During such work, active spores are released into the air, which are inhaled, settle on clothing and furniture, and can be transferred to other locations.
This can trigger allergic reactions, respiratory problems, and headaches, as reported in medical literature.

The first and most important step is to eliminate fungi and mold—i.e., deactivate spores and destroy the mycelium. One of the most effective methods is the use of microwaves.
